How much does a business website cost? An honest guide for 2026
The honest answer is "it depends", but that is useless to someone trying to budget. So here is what actually moves the price, what you should get for it, and the questions that stop you overpaying or, more often, underpaying for something that will not work.
What you are really paying for
A website price is mostly people's time, and the time goes into five things: strategy and structure (what pages, what each must do), design, content (words and images), development, and launch work (SEO setup, speed, tracking, hosting). Template-based builds spend almost nothing on the first and third, which is why they are cheap and why they rarely bring enquiries.
The levels
Template site
A theme, your logo and text dropped in, five to ten pages. Fast and cheap. Right for a business that only needs to exist online. Wrong for anyone who needs the website to bring customers, because the structure is generic and the speed is usually poor.
Custom business website
Designed around your business: a page per service or product group, content written for the buyer, real photography placed properly, built for speed, with SEO structure, tracking and WhatsApp integration. This is what most growing businesses need and what we build for the majority of our clients, from elevator companies to foundations.
Custom site with systems
Everything above plus functionality: a product catalogue with hundreds of items, a calculator, bookings, a client portal, multi-language, integration with a CRM. Price rises with the amount of logic, not the number of pages.
E-commerce
Payments, inventory, shipping, accounts, marketplaces. A separate category with its own cost drivers; the store design is often the smallest part.
What moves the price up
- Number of distinct page types, not number of pages. Forty product pages from one template cost little more than ten.
- Content. If you have no photographs and no written copy, someone has to create them. This is the most under-budgeted item on every project.
- Languages. Arabic, Hindi or Gujarati versions roughly add the content cost again plus layout work for right-to-left.
- Integrations. CRM, payment gateway, booking system, ERP.
- Speed of delivery. Two weeks instead of six is possible, and costs more.
Where costs hide
Ask about these before signing anything:
- Hosting and domain: who pays, whose name, what happens if you leave.
- Stock images and fonts: licensed or not.
- Revision rounds: how many are included.
- Content: is copywriting included or are you expected to supply it.
- Maintenance: what happens after launch, and what it costs.
- Source files: do you get them.
A low quote that excludes content, hosting and revisions often ends up more expensive than a complete one.
India versus local agencies abroad
A custom business website from a senior Indian team typically costs a fraction of the same work from an agency in Dubai, Sydney, London or New York, for the same reason any skilled service costs less in India: salaries and overheads. The quality question is separate from the price question and is answered by looking at live work. Our guide to hiring an Indian agency remotely covers how to judge it.
What a good website should pay back
Think about it as a salesperson who works all day, every day, in every market you serve. If a website brings even a few serious enquiries a month, the custom build pays for itself within the first year for most B2B and service businesses. The template site that brings none is the expensive one.
Our approach to pricing
We quote fixed prices per project after a short call, in your currency, with the scope written down: pages, content, photography placement, integrations, revisions, launch work and what happens after. Starting points are on our packages page; most projects are a variation of one of them.
Key takeaways
- Price follows people's time: strategy, design, content, development and launch work.
- Distinct page types, content creation, languages and integrations move the price, not page count.
- Ask who owns hosting, domain and source files, and whether content and revisions are included.
- A senior Indian team costs a fraction of a local agency abroad; judge quality by live work.
- A website that brings a few serious enquiries a month pays for itself in the first year.
Questions people ask
Why is there such a range of website prices?
Because "website" covers everything from a template with your logo to a custom system with a catalogue, calculators and integrations. The range reflects the amount of thinking, writing and building involved.
Should I supply my own content?
If you have good photographs and clear copy, yes, it reduces cost. Most businesses do not, and content is the part that makes a website convert, so budget for it.
Do you charge for hosting?
Hosting is in your name and billed by the host directly to you. We set it up and maintain it as part of the project or a small monthly care plan.
